LNFR (Drone for Lost & Found)
In the second half of 2025, New York State is launching an innovative public service robot designed to help both residents and tourists recover lost items. This cutting-edge service, currently available exclusively in Manhattan, utilizes small, mobile drones programmed to scan common public spaces for misplaced belongings. At launch, the robots are equipped to search two key areas: park benches and bus stops—locations frequently associated with lost items. However, the city plans to expand their search capabilities to include more public spaces in the near future. What makes this initiative especially notable is its collaboration with the NYPD. Each drone is deployed from a nearby police station, ensuring both operational security and real-time response capability. As the first service of its kind in the state, this project not only aims to improve urban convenience but also reflects New York’s ongoing commitment to integrating smart technology into civic life.
