NYC Foodscrap Recycling System
How is food waste recycled in New York city?
This map is based on foodscrap recycle system. It shows the route of foodscrap transportation from New York open cafes distributed by the drones, to the closest foodscrap drop off stations. After being processed in the stations, foodscraps are transported to the botanical garden to be used as compost.
Map of Lower Mahattan & Brooklyn
Foodsrap garbage bins are set every 400 meters on the open cafe streets. Then each circle has one foodscrap drop off station, including 100 foodscrap garbage bins, showing the farthest working distance range that the drones can fly. And the yellow lines are the route of the drones in each working zone. After collecting all the foodscraps from streets, drones transport the processed foodscrap compost to the botanical gardens through the purple route. These two maps also show the density of open cafes in New York city, areas that lack foodscrap drop off stations, and workload of each drone.

Spatial relationships between community gardens and food scrap drop off points
Drop off points for food scrap and community gardens are distributed throughout New York, densifying in more highly populated areas. This map illustrates the relationship between the densities of people and food scrap drop off locations, as well as locations of the community gardens that could utilize scrap for soil fertilization.
