New York State Climbing Center
Eileen Dong + Arianna Speleotes
Our project consists of two phases, a deconstruction of two existing sites and then a reconstruction of a new site using the deconstructed materials. Our deconstructed sites are the New York State Pavilion and the 1825 Cellblock at Sing Sing Prison. We’ve chosen to construct our new project on the site of the New York State Pavilion using marble stones taken from Sing Sing Prison. Given Sing Sing’s infamous history of constraint and confinement, we wanted to create something that promoted the opposite, freedom and movement. Hence why our proposal is the New York State Climbing Center.
