Natural Storm Barrier Proposal - Rockaway Peninsula
In response to rising sea levels and the prevalence of more frequent and stronger natural disasters, the main question arising in the context of Jamaica Bay, New York, is that of the viability of rebuilding zones that have been; and are predicted to be impacted. The goal of this project is to establish an understanding between sea-level rise and the cost associated with rebuilding impact zones. This information can then inform the best course of action in sites such as Coney Island, JFK, or Rockaway Beach and the most cost-effective and ecologically responsible way to provide a solution for the future. Our proposal suggests reclaiming the developed land within the Rockaway peninsula to be repurposed as state park land. All in effort to prevent the potential of these properties from being damaged or destroyed once again during massive floods
