Mass change is taking place in the Hudson Valley region of New York State. As a reaction to increase personal safety awareness caused by COVID-19 and from the unstable fluctuation in rent prices, the population of New York City and other local urban centers are flocking out of the city and into the Valley for a spaced-out living narrative.

This migration has its benefits where it is causing attention and growth to towns and cities that were dwindling in tourism and municipal funding. Towns are gaining diversity in person-to-person narratives and a variety in local job demand. Expanding on that note, however, the population moving in are wealthy white-collar citizens who are desperate to have the single-family lifestyle, meaning that they are willing to pay whatever it takes to obtain that life. Real estate market values for the Valley have tripled in the last two years, thus driving the rent value up for the local citizens.

This has had some serious repercussions, as the individuals being displaced are blue-collar, work with your hands, type of people. People have two main options for this situation; they may either stick it out and live in poverty but still be in the town they are accustomed to, or leave and find a new town. However, it is not that easy as the whole Valley is dealing with this issue. Meaning, anywhere where there is a direct connection to NYC, the price is driving up; West New York, which is disconnected from NYC, is the next available option for these people.

 

Cue GuerrillaCON is a movement to provide these displaced individuals a fighting chance in the towns they are native to. Towns created connections, narratives, and a homelife stolen from them. GuerrillaCON follows a core set of values for all of its Eco-Camps; produce items and services for either personal use or retail sale on a local level, live on the same site in a co-living fashion, to decrease the price of rent and encourage shared activity, as well as the sale of items on-site.
