Ano Nuevo Island Recon-Decon

Our project focuses on the island of Ano Nuevo which is a part of the Ano Nuevo Reserve and on the Coast of California. Through the deconstruction of the historic yet worn keeper’s house we propose to reuse these building materials to create a updated space for island researchers to both live and conduct research in through a modular design system. The overall goal of these modules is to create a comfortable space for researchers and minimize human-animal contact as well as provide nesting for island birds while not disturbing the sea lions.

Current State - The two main structures on the island are the keeper’s Quarters & the Fog House. There are also catwalks that span part of the island accompanied by a retaining wall and cistern

Reconstruction

Through the deconstruction of the Keeper’s quarters we can reuse that cataloged material to construct modules to improve researcher comfort with the living module and the research viewing through the observation module
